Senator James Manager representing Delta South Senatorial District in the National Assembly, has denied claims he benefitted from NDDC contracts during and after his time as the chairman of the Senate Committee on Niger Delta Affairs.
The Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio, had in a letter addressed to Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila, which was leaked to newsmen by a youth group in Abuja on Sunday, July 26, named Manager as one of the lawmakers who got six NDDC contracts. The Executive Director Projects of the agency, Dr. Cairo Ojougboh, had accused the Senator of getting contracts from the Commission.
However, in a statement released today July 27, Manager denied the claim and has threatened to take legal action.
His statement below…
“I sincerely wish to react as follows: That my tenure as chairman of Niger Delta Committee in the Senate effectively ended in 2015.
That ever since then I have never visited NDDC headquarters in Port Harcourt or any of its branches.
That NDDC never awarded any contract to any company owned by me. That I do not know of any company owned by me, that has ever gone into bidding for government jobs anywhere in the world. (This may come to many as a surprise but that is the gospel truth).”
‘Those who are alleging to defame me must be aware of the consequences.
That in the interest of the gullible innocent public, the authors led by the said Dr. Cairo Ojougboh or any other person should provide among other things the following please;
(A) detailed description of the said jobs. (B) names of companies (C) payments already made and to whom? (D) job performance (E) The Directors as they appear in the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).
That I sincerely in the name God request for proof of evidence. This is a very simple minimum demand.”

The founder of Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti, Chief Afe Babalola, has expressed disappointment with the federal government for not giving consideration to private universities in the plan to reopen schools that were shut in March due to the outbreak of COVID-1
Babalola, who said both private and public universities had been left out by the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 in its daily briefings, made the assertion in a goodwill message at a Zoom Meeting of the Pro Chancellors of Private Universities in Nigeria on Saturday.
In the message made available to journalists in Ado Ekiti yesterday, the ABUAD founder recommended that “private universities should be given the first consideration for resumption”.
This, he said, was “on account of the moral and physical discipline, quality and functional education, hygienic and safe environment, predictable academic calendar, absence of trade unionism, committed teachers, modern teaching equipment and laboratories, and adequate preparation to prevent COVID-19 as well as fully residential status of private universities.”
Babalola added, “Private universities are fully residential for both the students and staff. As a result, the students in private universities are better disciplined, better and easier to control, better mentored unlike their counterparts in public university 80 per cent of who come from home in public transport. Most, if not all, of the private universities, have their campuses fenced with full control over who comes in and who goes out.
“I believe that most private universities have complied or are in a position to comply with the provisions required by the PTF before the universities can reopen. I, therefore, suggest that the Pro-Chancellors should ask any university that has all the requirements to apply for inspection of the university and where a university has all the equipment and materials, it be given approval to reopen.”

An invitation to this effect was released Sunday night by the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, Arc. Sony Echono.
Top on the agenda of the expected meeting, according to the invitation dispatched, are the reconsideration of new examination timetables for the West African Examinations Council, WAEC, the National Examinations Council, NECO, the National Common Entrance Examinations and BECEC.
The invitation to the meeting expected to take place through zoom, read: “Invitation to a webinar consultative meeting between the FME and Hon Commissioners of Education. The PS, Federal Ministry of Education,Arc Sonny Echono, cordially invites Honourable Commissioners of education of the 36 states of the federation and the FCT to a consultative meeting on the way forward towards reopening our schools.
